Governors

Welcome to the governor pages of Barrow CofE Primary School Website.

The governing body is an important part of the school community, and has three core functions:

  • To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of Barrow CofE Primary School
  • To hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • To oversee the financial performance of the school, and to make sure its money is well spent

Governors are drawn from all parts of the school community, parent governors (elected by parents), a teaching staff governor (elected by school staff), a Cheshire West and Chester local authority appointed governor, foundation governors appointed by the Diocese of Chester, and co-opted governors drawn from the community, appointed directly by the governing board.

Many individual governors hold specific responsibilities and work closely with the Headteacher and staff across all aspects of school life. The governing body meets formally once each term, and carries out much of its work in two sub committees, (Curriculum & Safeguarding, and Finance, Staffing & Premises). The governing body also usually meets once a term in a General Purposes Committee.

I hope the accompanying pages provide some insight into the work of governors.
