Year 1/2 Looking at old toys

Date: 22nd Sep 2015 @ 7:44pm

Many thanks to all the kind parents and grandparents who allowed us to borrow a selection of old toys they had at home. The children enjoyed looking at the toys as part of our topic session, before having a go at designing and playing their own tiddlywinks and marbles games as we moved on to looking at the games children used to play.

In Maths, the Year 1's made play-doh shapes and sorted them into two groups - symmetrical and not symmetrical. The Year 2's used the Bee-Bot app on the iPads to give directions including 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 turns clockwise and anti-clockwise.

'How would you get to the moon?' was the question we were thinking about in Literacy today, after sharing the book 'Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy. 'On a magic rainbow' (by Lucy), 'on a flying reindeer' (by Emma) or 'in a car with rocket boosters' (by Seth) were just a few of the children's wonderful responses. What lovely imaginations they all have!
