Week ending October 9th 2015

Date: 13th Oct 2015 @ 11:09am

Over the last two weeks we have been very busy.

In maths, we have been learning number bonds. The Year Ones made their own number bond machines, which helped them build up all the number facts, in a systematic way. The Year two children revised what made 10. They played number balance games, wrote their own sums (7+3=8+1+1) and then went on to solve word problems.

The next focus was adding by counting on.  The children added by counting on using their fingers and then on the number line.  The children liked using an app (squeebles), where they had to identify and count on from the largest number. The Year twos went on to solve addition and subtraction, (would you rather problems, e.g: would you rather 90p or 70p + 30p).

In Literacy we have written questions, acted out and retold the story ‘Toys in Space.’

These are some of the questions the children wrote and asked the character Hoctopize :

Do you have a family?

When did you loose Cuddles?

How many days is it until your birthday?

Do you have teeth?

Have you met people before?

Do you like caramel ice cream?

In Science we made people to reinforce the properties of materials.

As a reward for getting all of the marbles, the children decided to bake.  smiley

We all got messy making cakes. It was Friday !

Can you guess which character we turned the cakes into?
